Numeracy skills are not just for scientists, accountants and the tax man, many professions require at least a basic level of understanding when it comes to numeracy. It is important to be able to work with numbers in performing daily on-the-job tasks. This course starts with an explanation of number systems and deals with decimal and binary number bases. Expressing size and magnitude show different ways of working with numbers, such as unit conversions, multipliers and scientific notation. Measurement in terms of mass, volume, fluids, time and geometric relationships are explained with examples.
An investigation in work and life outlines the steps in a research process, analyses and interpretation of data as graphically represented in various charts, graphs and curves. Financial numeracy is explained using the aspects of personal wealth such as managing expenses, budgeting and financial record keeping concluding with simple and compound interest calculations.
