In the world of trade, the ability to transport freight in the most cost and time-efficient manner reigns supreme. Therefore, it is essential in building an efficient supply chain from the main modes of freight transportation: air and surface which includes ocean, road, rail and a combination thereof – multimodal. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each mode is paramount to building an effective supply chain. Generally, four traits are considered in choosing a carrier, i.e. the one that can move the greatest volume of product with the greatest speed over the greatest distance at the lowest cost.

The first step toward choosing the right mode is understanding the aspects that make each mode unique from the others. As the learning is self-paced the module can be broken down and completed in a series of learning sessions. The individual modules will take less than a half-day to complete – typically on average between 60 – 90 minutes.
