Air transportation has been accommodating growing quantities of high-value freight and is playing an increasing role in global logistics. This module deals with a range of aspects relating to air transport.
Aircraft are generally the fastest way to get freight from one place to another and also more reliable than other forms of transport, as aircraft are less affected by delays than trucks. Commercial cargo aircraft are typically loaded with Unit Load Devices for moving Air Freight between airports. Due to the higher cost of Air Freight, it is often used only for the most critical shipping needs.
There are disadvantages and limitations to air transport. Air transport is still, by far, the most expensive way to ship. Also, due to the nature of air travel, weight and volume of freight have to stay minimal to ensure the safety of the flight. The level of emissions produced by air transport is also the highest of any mode. These limitations are discussed in the course in order to get a sound overall view of this module.
We recommend you do the Incoterms® 2020 course before enrolling for this module.
